AUZOLAN IRIMO

AUZOLAN IRIMO

The IRIMO process begins in 2012. This is the first industrial area (with listed buildings from 1939) in the municipality of Urretxu (Gipuzkoa) that is partly abandoned. Recent attempts by the municipality's general plans have always been stalled by antagonistic political positions. Faced with this situation, it was proposed that an open citizen process be set in motion for the gradual transformation of the area (75,000 m2).

In 2012, the first working groups were held with the participation of groups and agents from the municipality and the region, representing political parties, development agencies, cultural groups and neighbourhood associations.
As a result of the participation of the first working groups, the process' leading group was formed in 2013. The Motor Group is autonomous and its objective is to implement the necessary actions for the gradual transformation (but adaptable over time) of the industrial area to promote new public spaces, socio-economic activities and ultimately make the place known.
