The building destined to the sea is a municipal space with more than 30 years that had a formative use and was managed by local entities and after a long trajectory was empty and without use. The intervention is articulated in three axes: The implementation of energy efficiency, the adaptation of the space for multiple uses and the connection of the space with the territory in which it is inscribed
The intervention has been proposed in which reusing the largest number of existing elements making the necessary improvements to accommodate them to the new use implemented the passive measures to improve energy efficiency by replacing the windows by changing the lights.
On the roof we have opened a space that was previously in disuse because it was not passable and transforming it into a public space that will host a community garden managed by the neighborhood entities. On this roof there is a technical pergola with 27 photovoltaic panels generating a production of 7kw of clean energy
The project includes different formats of activities for which the distributions in all the floors are open and flexible being the furniture the element that qualifies and organizes the space according to the activities and needs.
The heart of the project is located in the Gastrolab, a production space for projects and initiatives equipped with a wide range of machinery that allows the development of different types of projects (ready meals, preserves, bakery, pastry).
We have proposed an open design that is very connected with the street and the territory. The whole ground floor is a very permeable space that allows visibility of the processes that take place in the sea. The transparency of the materials, with glass predominating as a separating element, allows a complete view of all the activity taking place in the space and this is possible from both the outside and the inside. The windows on the ground floor, even in one of its corners, open up completely, permeating the building and blurring the interior space with the street. This resource allows you to have a direct connection with the public space and carry out activities at street level.
In conclusion, a new resource of 789m2 is opened for the neighborhood in a building that was closed and unused for almost 5 years. The public cooperative workshop is the first space of these characteristics in the community of Madrid and the roof becomes a new public space where the citizens' initiatives of the territory manage an urban community garden.
