PARQUE MARTIN LUTHER KING

MARTIN LUTHER KING PARK

Since 34 years a group of neighbours of Adelfas met in assembles, in the parish La Paz, to improve the living conditions of this neighbourhood, located in the threshold of the districts of Retiro y Puente of Vallecas.

In the 1980s, a group of neighbours began to plant trees at the edge of the road to reclaim a green area. They did it under the slogan "Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree” from Martin Luther King.

They had to wait more than 30 years until, finally, the City of Madrid agreed to build the longed-for park. This was in 2007. Soon after, and at the initiative of the association, the park was named Martin Luther King in honour of those anonymous neighbours who fought against the odds to create a green-screen between the M-30 (one of the main circle roads of Madrid) and the neighbourhood. The long-awaited nameplate was made.
