ASTRATANK

ASTRA TANK

Astra was a weapons factory and, thanks to the efforts of many people, groups and institutions, in the future it will be a Social Factory for Culture; an open space for cultural creation, social transformation, interaction and experimentation. After 7 years of claiming for this space by the different collectives of Gernika, the cession of this space to the Astra Coordinator has been achieved. Until a few years ago, the privately owned factory was bought by the Gernika City Council and restored by the Basque Government thanks to the creation factories programme. At the beginning of October 2012, the building was entered and work is currently underway to refurbish the spaces. Zaramari, organizer of the BAT 2012, contacted Astra and considered the possibility of scheduling a workshop together with TXP for the refurbishment of the building.
