Sólo en la almendra central de Madrid se calcula que existe 421 inmuebles vacíos. Son innumerables los casos donde hemos sido testigos del cierre de cines y teatros históricos, edificaciones emblemáticas abandonadas o construcciones que no han llegado a ponerse en marcha, sometidas a un despilfarro incontrolado. Las consecuencias son múltiples y va dependiendo en función de los casos, aunque las razones son siempre las mismas. Por un lado el despilfarro descontrolado llegando a su agotamiento y por el otro establecimiento de un periodo de espera para rentabilizar este patrimonio inmobiliario que revalorizase su valor en el mercado.

Y mientras, los ciudadanos nos confrontamos a la dificultad de acceso a la vivienda, la expulsión, el desalojo, o sufrimos la desaparición o reducción de servicios y equipamientos públicos mermando las opciones para el desarrollo de actividades que no respondan a las puramente mercantiles. Existe un creciente movimiento que reclama estos espacios y su conquista ciudadana ya que son espacios de oportunidad, que pueden responder a distintas necesidades y demandas y dar cabida a las diferentes propuestas ciudadanas.

Hemos elegido 10 de las edificaciones vacías y sin uso de Madrid más destacables que encontramos en estos momentos. La intención es generar una consulta que determine cuál es la edificación que pueda simbolizar la toma del vacío como ese espacio de oportunidad para la ciudanía. Planteamos que la elección esté acompañada de una valoración o calificación determinada. Una vez concluida la consulta realizaremos una toma simbólica mediante la colocación de una bandera negra para la visibilización de este edificio, erigiéndose a partir de este momento como Zona temporalmente Autónoma, TAZ.

Only in the almendra central of Madrid (the centre area of Madrid is called la almendra, the almond) estimated 421 vacant buildings exist. There are innumerable cases where we have witnessed the closure of historic cinemas and theatres, emblematic abandoned buildings, or constructions that have not got under way, exposed to uncontrolled waste. The consequences are multiples and depend on the cases, although the reasons are always the same. On the one hand the uncontrolled waste reaching its exhaustion, and on the other the establishment of a waiting period to monetize this real estate asset, to revalue its value in the market.

While citizens face the difficulty of access to housing, experience expulsions or eviction, and suffer the disappearance or reduction of public services and facilities, the situation undermining options for the development of activities that do not correspond with purely commercial activities. There is a growing movement that demands these spaces and their citizenship conquest as they are spaces of opportunity, which can respond to different needs and demands, and accommodate different citizen proposals.

We have chosen 10 of the empty and unused buildings that can be found in Madrid at the moment. The intention is to generate a query that determines which is the building that can symbolise the taking of the void as that space of opportunity for the citizenship. We propose that the election be accompanied by a specific assessment or rating. Once the query is concluded we will make a symbolic take by placing a black flag for the visualisation of this building, erecting itself from this moment as Temporally Autonomous Zone, TAZ.
